Maximum allowed span (<1> kHz) in FFT mode is exceeded (<2> kHz)

The Rohde & Schwarz ESIB series analyzers can be used in combination with FFT filters. However there are some restrictions on the usable frequency spans, depending on the selected FFT RBW filter. It is now detected that the desired span (shown as <2> kHz in the error message), is wider than the maximum allowed span of the FFT RBW filter (shown as <1> kHz in the error message).

In the manual it is specified regarding the span of the FFT RBW filters:

• minimum display range: 50x resolution bandwidth selected
• maximum display range:
  • Resolution bandwidths > 20 Hz: 2 MHz (500 FFT-transf./sweep at maximum)
  • Resolution bandwidths < 20Hz: Reduction to 125 kHz at 1 Hz resolution bandwidth

Solution

Possible solutions for this error can be:

• Seperate the test in multiple bands, where the span of the bands is reduced to the suggested maximum allowed span width.
• Increase the RBW to allow for a wider usable frequency span.
• Disable FFT mode for the RBW filter.
